Sister Maeve White

Maeve White died recently in Pantasaph, Wales.   As the last Little Sister  in Wales, Maeve’s death brings to an end our presence there.  The first house in Wales was opened in Holywell in 1949.  Further houses opened in Llanelli, Wrexham, Blackwood, Merthyr Tydfil and Queensferry.  The sisters worked as nurses, social workers, catechists and parish workers through the years, each one learning about Welsh culture and coming to appreciate the people, their welcome and acceptance for us. Maeve lived in Llanelli for many years, at her funeral Mass our involvement  in Wales was remembered, specially at the Prayers of the Faithful:

“Today Lord, we thank you for the mission entrusted to the Little Sisters of the Assumption in Wales. It is now completed and we entrust all the people and the sisters who were part of that mission to your merciful love.”

We pray that Maeve and all our sisters linked with Wales who have gone before us may rest in eternal peace.
